What To Expect at Mission Dorado!
Visiting a church can be an intimidating process, especially when you don't know what to expect. At Mission Dorado Baptist Church we want to be sensitive to your experience with our fellowship. We hope that the questions below give you an idea as to what to expect at Mission Dorado before visiting. What kind of people will I find at Mission Dorado?
Mission Dorado is a fellowship of excitement filled with a love for God and a love for people. We simply want to experience the purity of love and fellowship that we believe will be expressed during eternity.
Do you have a nursery?
Yes, we have a wonderful nursery ministry that offers care from birth to 4 years old during every worship opportunity. Our nursery workers teach and lead activities for the children under their care.
What kind of children's activities do you have on Sunday mornings?
Our children's ministry is saturated with loving and caring teachers who engage and encourage children. Fun and truthful Bible lessons are taught during the Sunday School hour that includes--along with the Bible lesson--music, snacks, and a craft. During the morning worship service the children are called to the front for a children's sermon after which an age appropriate children's program is handed out for the kids to study during service. While we provide children's ministires, our main goal is to lead parents in discipling their children.
Do you take up an offering?
We do not "take up" an offering in the traditional sense. We instead have an offering box located at the entrance of the sanctuary.
How do I dress?
Everyone is encouraged to dress in the attire they feel is comfortable in order to worship the Lord in a respectful manner.
What is the music like?
Our music style is best described as "blended," and is led by our worship minister and a choir. We primarily sing hymns, feeling they capture the beauty of God's Word, but we also like to incorporate many of the newer songs that convey the theological depths of God's Word as well. Our goal is to sing songs that reflect the truths of God's Word accurately, however new or old.
What is the preaching like?
Our pastor, Jared Wellman, has a high view of God's Word and preaches expository, text-driven (verse by verse) messages. We believe that the preaching ministry is one of the most important worship opportunities that a church can provide because it is the announcement of God's Word, His revelation to man.
Are you affiliated with a denomination?
Yes, we are associated with the Southern Baptist Convention nationally and the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention state wide. This affiliation allows us to take part and support the largest missions organizations in the world as well as one of the largest relief efforts available.
What type of Sunday School classes do you have?
We believe that the small groups in the church are where much of the true ministry takes place. Our pastor has said that if you had a choice between going to Sunday School or attending morning worship, that he would encourage you to attend Sunday School. Statistically you are more apt to remain plugged in to church when you are a part of a small group. We funnel our Lottie Moon giving, monthly outreach program, and other missions opportunities through our Sunday School classes. If you want to experience the Lord's work at Mission Dorado in the deepest way possible, we encourage you to plug into a Sunday School class. We have a lot to choose from!
